The short answer

NHTSA received Volvo Bus Corporation’s report on Sep 18, 2026. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 28, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

The missing information may prevent or delay the use of the emergency exit, increasing the risk of injury.

Volvo Bus Corporation (Volvo Bus) is recalling certain 2009-2025 Volvo 9700 buses.

The emergency exit label on the entrance door is missing the exit operating instructions.

As such, these vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 217, “Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release.”

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt. Owners’ complaints are counted on each vehicle’s page.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
