NHTSA received Hexagon Purus Systems USA LLC’s report on Apr 20, 2026. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 25, 2026.
Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
A display that does not show accurate information may fail to alert the driver to an actual brake issue, increasing the risk of a crash.
Hexagon Purus Systems USA LLC (Hexagon Purus) is recalling certain 2025-2026 Tern RC8 vehicles.
A software error may occur between the digital display cluster and the pressure sensors, causing the system to show the incorrect air brake pressure and falsely indicate a brake system failure.
As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 121, “Air Brake Systems.”

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt. Owners’ complaints are counted on each vehicle’s page.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
