What’s wrong with it?

Air bags with insufficient pressure retention increase the risk of ejection and injury during a crash.

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain Mopar side curtain air bags with part numbers 68224526AJ and 68224527AH.

The right and left side curtain air bags may have insufficient pressure retention from improperly sealed seams.

As such, this equipment fails to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 226, “Ejection Mitigation.”

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
