The short answer

NHTSA received Lippert’s report on Mar 19, 2026. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 28, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

A loss of lubrication can cause bearing failure and wheel loss, increasing the risk of a crash.

Lippert is recalling certain 8K axles.

Please see the 573 Safety Recall Report for a full list of affected part numbers.

The axle hubs were incorrectly assembled with a grease seal rather than an oil seal, causing oil to leak.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
