The short answer

NHTSA received Toyo Tire Holdings of Americas, Inc.’s report on Oct 13, 2025. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 25, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

Tread separation can cause vehicle instability, increasing the risk of a crash.

Toyo Tire Holdings of Americas, Inc.

(Toyo) is recalling certain Open Country A/T III, Open Country R/T Trail, Open Country M/T, Open Country H/T II, Crosstek 2, Dura Grappler Highway Terrain, Exo Grappler AWT, Mud Grappler Extreme Terrain, Recon Grappler A/T, Ridge Grappler, Terra Grappler G3 A/T, and Trail Grappler M/T tires.

Please see the attached tire chart for all affected sizes.

Contamination during production may reduce adhesion and cause the tread to separate.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which tires, by their DOT codes: the range is in the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site, not in this file. Check the code on your tire’s sidewall against it.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
