The short answer

NHTSA received Volvo Trucks North America’s report on Nov 18, 2025. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 26, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

Safety systems that depend on the ECU (Automatic Traction Control, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Active Cruise Control, and Collison Mitigation System) may have diminished or lost functionality, increasing the risk of a crash.

Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo Trucks) is recalling certain Bendix EC80 Advanced Electronic Control Units (ECU) part numbers K163499 and K190048.

Electrical noise and low signal to the power line carrier may cause the ECU to incorrectly process commands or stop working.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
