What’s wrong with it?

An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain engine block heaters, with part numbers GJ7Z-6A051-BA and GJ7Z-6A051-AA, sold as accessory parts.

The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
