The short answer

NHTSA received GKN Automotive’s report on Jan 14, 2025. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 25, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

A cracked or broken driveshaft can cause a loss of drive power or a vehicle rollaway while in Park. Both scenarios increase the risk of a crash.

GKN Automotive (GKN) is recalling certain replacement driveshafts for 2006-2015 BMW Mini, 2004-2018 Land Rover Discovery, and Range Rover vehicles.

The driveshaft can crack or break.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
