Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
The inability to determine the production date of a tire can result in prolonged usage of a tire that should be replaced, or unknowingly using a tire that has been recalled. Either of these situations can increase the risk of a crash.
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (Goodyear) is recalling certain Hercules Terra Trac AT X-Venture tires, size LT265/75R16.
The tires contain a tire identification number (TIN) that is missing the 4-digit week and year code mark.
As such, these tires fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 574, “Tire Identification & Recordkeeping.”

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which tires, by their DOT codes: the range is in the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site, not in this file. Check the code on your tire’s sidewall against it.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
