What’s wrong with it?
Tie rod failure can cause a loss of vehicle steering control and increase the risk of a crash.
Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo Trucks) is recalling certain replacement tie rods equipped with USK ball studs, part numbers A-13102E4737 and A-13102E4738.
The tie rod assemblies may contain ball studs that have been incorrectly heat-treated, which can cause them to break, and possibly result in tie rod failure.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
