What’s wrong with it?
A deactivated air bag cannot deploy as intended during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
American Furukawa submitted a defect information report based upon the recall determinations made by Toyota (23V-480), Ford (23V-847), and Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) (Stellantis) (24V-199, 24E-025).
Certain clock springs installed in steering column control modules may have been contaminated during the manufacturing process, which can cause electrical failure and deactivate the driver’s air bag.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
