Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
In the event of a rear impact crash, the rear impact guard may not sufficiently protect light duty vehicles, increasing the risk of injury.
Wabash National Corporation (Wabash) is recalling certain 2009-2024 dry van trailers equipped with a rail-style lift gate.
Please see the recall report for a complete list of models.
The location of the rear impact guard is too far forward from the rear of the trailer, reducing impact protection.
As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 224, “Rear Impact Protection.”

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt. Owners’ complaints are counted on each vehicle’s page.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
