The short answer

NHTSA received BCS Automotive Interface Solutions US, L’s report on Nov 14, 2023. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

A deactivated air bag cannot deploy as intended during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

BCS Automotive Interface Solutions US, Ltd.

(BCS Automotive) submitted a non-compliance information report based upon the recall determinations made by Ford Motor Company (23V-847) and Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) (Stellantis) (24V-199).

Certain steering column control modules (SCCM) installed into vehicles have electrical functions that may fail and deactivate the driver’s air bag.

As such, vehicles with certain SCCMs installed fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, “Occupant Crash Protection.”

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
