What’s wrong with it?
Hydrostatic pump failure can cause a loss of power, limiting vehicle speed, and increasing the risk of a crash.
Fontaine Modification (Fontaine) is recalling certain Fontaine-modified 2020-2023 Elgin Crosswind 1 and Elgin Whirlwind 1 sweepers built on Peterbilt 220 chassis.
The engine air compressor stainless steel braided supply line may rub through the oil suction tube running from the Variable Power Divider (VPD) sump to the hydrostatic pump, causing the pump to fail.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt. Owners’ complaints are counted on each vehicle’s page.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
