What’s wrong with it?
A helmet that does not provide adequate impact protection increases the risk of injury during a crash.
Blackbeards Motorcycle Gear, Inc. is recalling certain HamrHead HM-569 helmets in all sizes XXS through XXL, with a manufacture date of December 2020.
The helmet may not adequately protect the wearer in the event of a head impact during a crash.
As such, these helmets fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 218, “Motorcycle Helmets.”

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
