What’s wrong with it?
If the wheelchair lift’s outer barrier cannot withstand the minimum amount of force, it can increase the risk of injury to lift occupants.
Ricon Corporation (Ricon) is recalling certain Baylift Wheelchair Lift, part number RISSBF3XXX-XX.
The outer barrier cannot withstand the maximum force when fully deployed.
As such, these lifts fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 403, “Platform Lift Systems.”

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
