The short answer

NHTSA received Daimler Trucks North America LLC’s report on Aug 14, 2020. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 28, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

Glare can reduce the driver’s visibility of the road, thus increasing the risk of a crash.

Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Freightliner Custom Chassis XCL, XCP, XCR and XCS and 2015-2019 Custom Chassis XCM vehicles.

The instrument panel brightness cannot be adjusted, possibly causing glare when driving at night.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 101, “Control and Displays.”

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt. Owners’ complaints are counted on each vehicle’s page.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
