The short answer

NHTSA received Great Dane Trailers’s report on Jul 24, 2020. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 19, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

A license plate light aimed toward other drivers may increase the risk of a crash.

Great Dane Trailers (Great Dane) is recalling certain Truck Bodies equipped with Maxon GPTLR and GPTWR Lift Gates with License Plate Bracket Light number 908120-01.

If installed, the license plate light may aim rearward and not towards the license plate.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt. Owners’ complaints are counted on each vehicle’s page.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
