What’s wrong with it?
If the rear axles are overloaded, over time the wheel hubs may fail prematurely, increasing the risk of a crash.
Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain 2018-2021 VNL and VNR buses.
The Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) for the rear drive axles stated on the Federal Certification Label exceeds the rating of the wheel hubs.
As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, “Certification.”

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt. Owners’ complaints are counted on each vehicle’s page.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
