NHTSA received ZF North America, Inc.’s report on Jul 30, 2020. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

A damaged air bag crash sensor may cause a delayed air bag deployment in a frontal crash or a risk of a non-deployment in a low speed crash, increasing the risk of injury.

ZF North America, Inc.

(ZF) is recalling certain Remote Accelerometer Sensors (RAS) installed in 2019 Chrysler Jeep Cherokee and 2018 Volkswagen Atlas vehicles.

The air bag crash sensors may have been exposed to excessively high temperatures during manufacturing, resulting in damaged soldering connections within the sensors.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
