Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

An engine stall can increase the risk of a crash.

Cummins Inc.

(Cummins) is recalling certain remanufactured CM871 Engine Control Modules (ECMs), part number 3684275RX. these parts were sold exclusively for installation as replacement parts in Cummins ISX engines (in truck and bus applications) and in remanufactured ISX engines.

A component within the ECM may have cracked solder joints, possibly resulting in an engine stall.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
