The short answer

NHTSA received TAP Worldwide, LLC’s report on Sep 6, 2019. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

Lug stud failure can lead to a sudden reduction in vehicle handling, increasing the risk of a crash.

TAP Worldwide, LLC (TAP) is recalling certain Pro Comp Extended Thread (ET-Style) Lug Nuts, part numbers PXA16148 (chrome), PXA16148B (black) and PXA16148OET (short).

The lug nuts may not be the correct size due to being incorrectly labeled.

As a result, the lug nuts may not be able to be properly tightened, possibly causing lug stud failure.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
