Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
The missing labels can result in the user overloading the trailer causing a loss of control, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
TAP Worldwide, LLC (TAP) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Smittybilt SCOUT trailer kits, sold with tires and wheels included in the kit (SKU number 87400).
These trailer kits were sold without the required labeling for the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR), and cargo capacity statements.
As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, “Tire Selection and Rims.”

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt. Owners’ complaints are counted on each vehicle’s page.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
