Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
If the trailer separates from the gooseball and the trailer is not using safety chains, the trailer could separate from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Horizon Global (Horizon) is recalling certain Reese Elite Aftermarket Gooseball kits, both the Hi-Rise Ball kit, part number 19315, and the GM Kit, part number 30891, sold for aftermarket installation on Chevrolet and GMC trucks with the factory OEM underbed package.
These parts are the connector used in a gooseneck hitch to connect the towing vehicle’s underbed to a trailer.
The load dynamics of the underbed in these vehicles may potentially result in the trailer separating from the gooseball.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
