Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
A helmet that does not adequately protect the wearer from an impact can increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Badass Helmet Company (Badass) is recalling certain Trooper motorcycle helmets, model TR001.6, in sizes XS, S, M, L, XL, and 2XL.
These helmets may not adequately protect the wearer in the event of a head impact during a motorcycle crash and they may not stay secured to the rider’s head.
Additionally, the label inside the helmet may be incorrect in that it does not list the actual helmet manufacturer and does not list the model of the helmet.
As such, these helmets fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 218, “Motorcycle Helmets.”

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
