What’s wrong with it?
If the frontal air bags and seat belt pretensioners are disabled, there is an increased risk of injury to the vehicle occupants in the event of a vehicle crash that necessitates deployment of these safety systems.
TRW Automotive Inc (TRW) has submitted a Defect Information Report based upon decisions made by Hyundai Motor America and Kia Motors America to conduct recalls (numbers 18V137 and 18V363 respectively).
In the event of a crash, certain ZF Air Bag Control Units (ACU) may be damaged from electrical overstress, preventing the frontal air bags and seat belt pretensioners from deploying.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
