The short answer

NHTSA received Fuel Helmets’s report on Jan 24, 2018. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 28, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

If the helmet strap fails to keep the helmet secured in the event of a crash, the rider has an increased risk of injury.

Fuel Helmets (Fuel) is recalling certain model SH-HHFL64 and SH-HHGL1 size small, SH-HHFL65 and SH-HHGL15 size medium, SH-HHGL16 and SH-HHFL66 size large, and SH-HHFL67 and SH-HHGL17 size extra large helmets.

The strap that secures the helmet to the rider’s head may fail in low or high temperatures.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 218, “Motorcycle Helmets.”

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
