What’s wrong with it?
If the barrier is too rigid to absorb an impact, the occupants will have an increased risk of injury.
Van-Con, Inc.
(Van-Con) is recalling certain 2007-2017 Dual Rear Wheel school buses built on Chevrolet 3500 Express chassis.
The seat barrier behind the driver seat may be pinned to the bulkhead preventing it from deforming in the event of an impact.
As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 222, “School Bus Passenger Seating and Crash Protection.”

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt. Owners’ complaints are counted on each vehicle’s page.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
