The short answer

NHTSA received PACCAR Incorporated’s report on Jul 17, 2017. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

Failure of the winch may result in loss of control of the load, increasing the risk of injury.

PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain Braden Hydraulic Recovery winches, model number PD18C, sold as part numbers 05370, 05373, 05374, 05375, 05439, 05644, 06033, 06811, 06979, and 83195 by PACCAR Winches.

A defective ring gear adapter might cause the winch to fail under load.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
