Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
Unintentional movement of the wheelchair lift can cause injury to the lift occupant and/or the lift operator.
Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling certain model year 2012-2017 Canyon Star motor homes manufactured September 7, 2011, to September 6, 2016 and equipped with wheelchair lifts.
Incorrect bolts may have been used to install the wheelchair lift base.
These bolts may unexpectedly break allowing the lift to move.
As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 404, “Platform Lift Installations.”

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt. Owners’ complaints are counted on each vehicle’s page.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
