The short answer

NHTSA received Spartan Motors USA’s report on May 9, 2016. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 19, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

With an improperly wired circuit breaker, maintenance personnel could be unaware that the lift gate system is still energized, increasing the risk of personal injury.

Spartan Motors USA (Spartan) is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 Utilimaster Aeromaster vehicles manufactured from November 5, 2013, through March 31, 2016.

The push-to-trip circuit breaker for the lift gate system may have been improperly wired.

As a result, even though the circuit breaker has been pushed, the lift gate system may still be powered.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt. Owners’ complaints are counted on each vehicle’s page.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
