What’s wrong with it?
Loss of power steering assist would result in increased difficulty to steer the vehicle in either direction at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Freightliner Custom Chassis XCP chassis manufactured from April 26, 2013, through January 15, 2015.
The power steering fluid temperature may exceed the power steering hose material ratings on some rear engine chassis built with certain 18,000lb and 20,000lb-load capacity front axles used in motor home applications.
This can cause the hose to fail, resulting in a sudden loss of power steering fluid and power assist.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt. Owners’ complaints are counted on each vehicle’s page.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
