The short answer

NHTSA received Mack Trucks, Inc.’s report on Feb 19, 2016. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 24, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

If he cap nut loosens and falls off, the yoke can separate from the axle input shaft and allow the drive shaft to disconnect, increasing the risk of a crash.

Mack Trucks, Inc.

(Mack) is recalling certain model year 2012-2016 Granite (GU), Pinnacle (CHU, CXU), TerraPro (LEU, MRU), Titan (TD), and LR trucks manufactured from September 1, 2011, through September 8, 2015.

The cap nut that retains the interaxle driveshaft yoke to the rear axle input shaft may loosen.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt. Owners’ complaints are counted on each vehicle’s page.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
