The short answer

NHTSA received Bridgestone/Firestone North America Tire’s report on Apr 20, 2016. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

A tread separation increases the risk of a crash.

Bridgestone/Firestone North America Tire (Bridgestone) is recalling certain Firestone FR710 tires, size 205/65R16, and Champion Fuel Fighter tires, sizes 205/65R15 and 205/70R15, manufactured March 27, 2016, to April 9, 2016.

These replacement passenger car tires may have been manufactured with inconsistent rubber coverage over the steel plies.

As a result, the tread may separate.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which tires, by their DOT codes: the range is in the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site, not in this file. Check the code on your tire’s sidewall against it.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
