The short answer

NHTSA received Omix Ada, Inc’s report on Nov 1, 2016. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

Premature failure of the steering sector shaft can cause loss of control and increase the risk of a crash.

Omix Ada, Inc.

(Omix Ada) is recalling certain Replacement Steering Sector Shafts for early Willlys & Jeep 1941-1966 CJ2a, CJ3a, Willys MB and 1950-1952 M38 (military models), originally equipped with Ross steering boxes.

The affected steering sector shafts, manufactured July 25, 2011, to October 14, 2016, may have an incomplete heat treatment, causing accelerated wear and possibly resulting in premature failure.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
