The short answer

NHTSA received Thieman Tailgates’s report on Sep 29, 2016. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

If a supporting chain fails unexpectedly during operation, one side of the platform would drop, increasing the risk of a injury to someone on the liftgate or those nearby.

Thieman Tailgates (Thieman) is recalling certain TVL125, TVL125A, TVL16, TVL16A, and SP TVL125A AL 75X48+18+6 D/FACS liftgates manufactured September 25, 2014, to July 2, 2015.

The roller chains on the affected liftgates may fail.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
