The short answer

NHTSA received Ricon Corporation’s report on Mar 11, 2016. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 25, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

If the platform side plates crack or the platform mounting fails from out-of-position bearings, the lift platform can separate from the lift and come to rest against the vehicle’s lift door. When the vehicle’s doors are opened, the platform may fall onto the lift operator, increasing their risk of injury.

Ricon Corporation (Ricon) is recalling certain model S2005, S2010, S5005, S5010, S5505, and S5510 wheelchair lifts manufactured August 26, 2014, to July 1, 2015.

The platform side plate of the affected wheelchair lifts may crack.

Additionally, the lifts are equipped with folding link arms that may have pivot holes that are too big, allowing the bearings to move out of position.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
