What’s wrong with it?
If the helmet straps stretch significantly in the event of a crash, the helmet may not remain secured to the user’s head increasing their risk of injury.
Helmet City, Inc.
(HCI) is recalling certain model 115 German helmets, size XL, manufactured from April 1, 2014, through April 30, 2014.
During a load situation such as during a crash, the straps that secure the affected helmets may stretch excessively.
As such, these helmets fail to comply with the retention requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 218, “Motorcycle Helmets.”

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
