What’s wrong with it?
An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
Takata Corporation (Takata) is recalling certain seat-mounted, SSI-20 design type, Side Air Bag Inflators manufactured December 13, 2014, to December 14, 2014.
A suspected manufacturing error during production of certain inflator lots may result in unusually high pressures in the inflators upon deployment of the side air bags.
This over pressure could cause the inflator to rupture, causing metal fragments to be propelled into the passenger compartment.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
