The short answer

NHTSA received Suzuki Motor of America, Inc.’s report on Dec 18, 2015. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 22, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

A short circuit may cause the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

Suzuki Motor of America, Inc.

(Suzuki) is recalling certain model year 2014 Suzuki DL 1000 motorcycles manufactured January 17, 2014, to June 5, 2014, 2015 Suzuki DL1000 motorcycles manufactured November 4, 2014, to February 6, 2015 and 2016 Suzuki DL1000 motorcycles manufactured June 11, 2015, to July 15, 2015.

The affected motorcycles have a wiring harness that may rub against the bottom of the fuel tank.

Vibration from riding may cause the wiring insulation to wear off, allowing a bare wire to short circuit against the fuel tank.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt. Owners’ complaints are counted on each vehicle’s page.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
