The short answer

NHTSA received New Flyer Industries Ltd.’s report on Aug 4, 2015. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 19, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

If the PRD does not activate in the event of a build up of pressure, the CNG tank may explode, increasing the risk of fire and injury.

New Flyer Industries Ltd.

(New Flyer) is recalling certain model year 2014 NABI 42BRT transit buses manufactured from December 19, 2014, through June 6, 2015, and 2014-2015 NABI 40LFW transit buses manufactured from September 11, 2014, through June 3, 2015.

The affected buses are powered with compressed natural gas (CNG) and are equipped with pressure relief devices (PRD) that may not function as designed, failing to vent a buildup of pressure, such as could occur if the CNG tank was exposed to fire.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt. Owners’ complaints are counted on each vehicle’s page.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
