The short answer

NHTSA received Navistar, Inc.’s report on Jul 8, 2015. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 19, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

If engine oil comes into contact with a hot surface, there is an increased risk of a fire.

Navistar, Inc.

(Navistar) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 International TranStar vehicles manufactured April 10, 2012, to December 12, 2014.

Excessive engine crankcase pressures may cause the 90-degree elbow of the vent tube assembly to detach from the crankcase ventilation breather, possibly allowing engine oil to come into contact with hot surfaces.

What should you do?

Cummins will notify owners on behalf of Navistar, and dealers will secure the ends of the 90-degree elbow. In addition, the electronic control module (ECM) will be reprogrammed with software that can adjust the engine output under misfire conditions to limit crankcase pressures. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on June 16, 2015. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825, or Cummins customer service at 1-800-343-7357.

Which ones are recalled?

NHTSA counts 63 vehicles potentially involved, across everything this recall names.

Each model year opens its own page: every recall naming it, its owner complaints and its crash ratings.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt. Owners’ complaints are counted on each vehicle’s page.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
