NHTSA received BMW of North America, LLC’s report on Jan 26, 2015. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 22, 2026.
Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
The maximum weight listed on the label is incorrect (too low) and therefore does not comply with Federal Regulations.
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 MINI Cooper Hardtop two door vehicles manufactured December 1, 2013, to December 14, 2014.
The affected vehicles may have been manufactured with an incorrect maximum capacity weight stated on the Tire Information Placard.
Thus, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 110, “Tire Selection and Rims and Motor Home/Recreation Vehicle Trailer Load Carrying Capacity Information for Motor Vehicles with a GVWR of 4,536 kilograms (10,000 pounds) or less.”

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt. Owners’ complaints are counted on each vehicle’s page.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
