Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
If the trailer is struck from behind and the rear impact guards do not meet the required standards, there is an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Strick Trailers, LLC (Strick) is recalling certain model year 2009-2015 Dry Freight Van Trailers manufactured April 25, 2008, to June 5, 2014.
The affected trailers are equipped with rear impact guards using gusset part numbers 40033/40034, 43191/43192, 63133/63134 or 67046/67047.
The rear impact guards with these gussets do not meet federal standards for strength and energy absorption.
As such, these trailers do not comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 223, “Rear Impact Guards.”

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt. Owners’ complaints are counted on each vehicle’s page.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
