The short answer

NHTSA received Volvo Bus Corporation’s report on Mar 4, 2014. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 25, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

If the sliding seat is not locked in place, the seat may move forward and backwards on the track, increasing the risk of injury to the seat passenger if the coach is involved in a crash.

Volvo Bus Corporation (Volvo) is recalling certain model year 2009-2014 9700 coaches equipped with a wheelchair lift.

In the affected vehicles, the sliding seats, which can be moved to make room for wheelchair passengers, have lock down handles which can be forced to latch in an incorrect location.

Locking the seats incorrectly may cause damage to the handle and allow the seat to not latch properly.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
