Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
A helmet that may not remain secure increases the risk of injury to the user in the event of a crash.
FLY Racing (FLY) is recalling certain model .357 Helmets size XL manufactured June 1, 2012, to December 31, 2012.
The metal ring on the retention strap may separate in high heat conditions.
Thus, these helmets fail to conform the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Systems (FMVSS) No. 218, “Motorcycle Helmets.”

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
