The short answer

NHTSA received Ricon Corporation’s report on Mar 27, 2014. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

If the cable does not clear the wheel chair lift it may contact the power lug and if it does not have a nonconductive cover, or it has an improperly installed non-conductive cover, then a short circuit may occur that could result in a fire.

Ricon Corporation is recalling certain S series and K series wheelchair lifts manufactured January 1, 2013, through January 4, 2014, and equipped with an optional armored pendant cable.

The affected model numbers start with S2003, S2005, S2010, S5505, S5510, K2010, K5505, or K5510 and all of the model numbers end with a ‘B’ to denote being equipped with an armored pendant cord.

The armored cable may be positioned such that it does not clear the wheelchair lift.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
