The short answer

NHTSA received Explorer Van Company, Inc.’s report on Apr 17, 2013. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 22, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

If the wires become lodged in the seat riser mechanism, they may become severed and potentially short circuit. A short circuit may result in a fire.

Explorer Van Company, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2013 Explorer and Explorer Limited SE vehicles built on GMC Savana and Chevrolet Express chassis, manufactured August 1, 2012, through April 9, 2013.

The wiring harness that powers the seat adjuster and the seat heating circuit may not be properly secured.

As a result, the harness may become lodged in the seat riser mechanism.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
