The short answer
NHTSA received Fontaine Heavy-Haul’s report on Feb 22, 2013. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.
Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
In the event of a combo eye plate crack and failure, the deck of the trailer could tilt and impact the highway, stopping the vehicle unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.
Fontaine Trailer Company, dba Fontaine Heavy-Haul, is recalling certain model year 2013 Renegade LX40 and LXT40 lowbed trailers manufactured between August 2012 and November 2012.
The combo eye plate that connects the gooseneck portion of the trailer to the deck portion of the trailer may crack and ultimately fracture and thereby fail to maintain the load carrying capabilities as designed.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
