NHTSA received Fontaine Modification’s report on Feb 8, 2013. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.
Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
Without a retaining clip, the steering may feel “loose” and be unresponsive which may increase steering difficulty and the likelihood of a vehicle crash.
Fontaine Modification is recalling certain model year 2011-2013 Navistar International 4300, 4400, 7300, 7400, and 7500 trucks; manufactured January 1, 2011 through January 9, 2013 and were modified to be able to be steered from either front seat.
Certain steering assembly retaining clips may not be completely engaged, resulting in the clips coming loose.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
